This is our day to make the nonprofit sector voice heard loud and proud at the Arizona State Capitol! We are excited to have secured the Senate Lawn for our event this year, and we look forward to seeing more nonprofits than ever before flood the Capitol on February 25.
This year's event will feature a lunch on the lawn with legislators, including remarks from Senate and House leadership (invited). Attendees have the option of attending just the lunch or staying for the full program. After lunch, the group will divide into the House & Senate to be introduced from the floor of each respective chamber. In the afternoon, we will offer two educational sessions in the Historic Senate Room in the Capitol Museum. These topics will be announced and may include issue or budget briefings, legislator roundtable discussions, or advocacy related education and information.
As you may be aware, Legislative leadership has been talking about doing the budget during what is known as crossover week. This is the time after which the chamber of origin has stopped hearing their bills (so, Senate hearing Senate Bills and House hearing House bills) and is going to turn towards hearing the opposite chamber bills (so, Senate hears House bill and House hears Senate bills).
Our day of advocacy could fall at this time when the legislature is focusing on the budget. Because of this, we may or may not be doing individual meetings with legislators like we have normally done. The Alliance and our lobbying team will help us determine what is best to do, based on what is happening at the capitol as we get closer. As such, we are asking you to let us know what your availability will be during the registration process so we know who may be available for meetings if we have them.
And, as we always say, the word of the day is FLEXIBILITY as the pace and flow at the Capitol, and therefore the availability of legislators, is always hard to determine.
To help attendees make the most of their time at the Capitol, we will once again be offering a pre-event webinar entitled "How to Make the Most of Day of Advocacy" on February 18 from 4:00-5:00pm. Attendees may opt in to this webinar during the registration process and will be sent the webinar information prior to the session.
