We Stand for Nonprofits

The Alliance of Arizona Nonprofits works tirelessly to ensure the voice of nonprofits is loud and clear on issues impacting their critical work on behalf of all of our communities.  And, we make sure nonprofit professionals and their boards have access to information, resources and training to help them advocate on issues specific to their missions.

Consider making a personal gift or corporate contribution on #GivingTuesday to help us continue to protect the future sustainability of nonprofits in Arizona.

The Alliance has worked tirelessly to protect and promote the nonprofit sector by:

  • Rallying forces to communicate the dangers of eliminating or reducing the incentive for charitable tax deductions
  • Educating lawmakers on why keeping politics out of nonprofit work is the right thing to do
  • Working with the Dept. of Gaming to keep $10-$12 million flowing to nonprofits from tribal gaming grants
  • Opposing the exclusion of certain types of nonprofits form the Arizona State Employee Charitable Giving Campaign
  • Working with the Department of Liquor to insert language into the Liquor Omnibus Bill to ensure nonprofits could continue to capitalize on wine pulls, a successful fundraising tactic used by many organizations
  • Promoting legislation which was successful in extending the deadline for the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit to April 15, thus extending the ‘end-of-year’ giving season

Did you know?
The Alliance retains a government affairs firm to work on behalf of our sector. Each month during session, we monitor bills going through the Arizona legislature to determine their potential impact on our local nonprofits and take action if necessary.

In 2017, the Alliance focused on:

  • Increasing participation in the Nonprofit Policy Council by over 50%
    • Statewide policy calls with local and federal updates each month
    • New Public Policy Roundtable in Southern AZ
  • Holding  7 workshops and webinars sorrounding advoacacy and government relations which served 346 nonprofit professionals
  •  Coordinating annual Day of Advocacy allowing 80 nonprofit professionals and board members to receive critical training and opportunities to meet with their legislators

In 2018, we plan to:

  • Expand our outreach and resources to organizations in Northern Arizona
  • Add more in-person and online training on advocacy and public policy
  • Increase timely and relevant communication on important issues impacting the sector
  • Continue to be a watchdog protecting our nonprofits form harmful or constrictive legislation and policies

As #GivingTuesday draws near, take a moment to reflect on how much each our nonprofit member organizations, and more specifically, their teams of people, give to our citizens and our communities every single day.  A gift to the Alliance this #GivingTuesday will help us continue to protect and promote the work of more than 20,000 nonprofits in our great state.
