KPHO CBS5 Chief Meteorologist Paul Horton and the BBBSAZ staff celebrate the record breaking $329,572 raised through Paul's Pay It Forward Car Wash.

The 10th Annual Paul’s Car Wash fundraising event raised a record $329,572 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona. Hosted by CBS5 Chief Meteorologist Paul Horton, and televised on KPHO CBS5 and KTVK 3TV, the car wash was held Monday, Oct. 16, to Friday, Oct. 20, at Desert Ridge Marketplace. Each day, from 4:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Paul joined more than 150 volunteers of all ages to wash 650 vehicles with donations benefiting BBBSAZ, and broadcast live on CBS 5 and 3TV news shows to highlight BBBSAZ’s mission and impact. As part of the 10th Anniversary celebration, 3TV hosted a second location on Friday, Oct. 20, at Jacksons Car Wash, SanTan, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Jacksons provided 240 professional car washes in exchange for donations to BBBSAZ. Royal Norman, chief meteorologist of 3TV News, along with other 3TV personalities, joined forces with Paul and the CBS5 team to have an even greater impact this year.

“The money we raise and exposure we get every year for our agency is incredible and helps us take more kids off our waiting list and match them caring volunteer mentors in the Valley,” said Laura Capello, president and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona. “And the partnership we have developed with the CBS 5 and 3TV news teams makes it a very well run event and one that our team looks forward to participating in.”

Thanks to 3TV’s, CBS 5’s and Paul Horton’s commitment to BBBSAZ, and the contributions by other corporate and community partners, Paul’s Car Wash has grown to become a week-long, family-friendly, community event featuring live entertainment and appearances by special guests all focused on supporting BBBSAZ’s mission.

Event sponsors stopped by the car wash to present donations to BBBSAZ and help Paul wash cars, all to show their support for mentoring programs that work. Sponsors included Wells Fargo, Fry’s Food Stores, Fiesta Bowl Charities, Leslie’s Pool Supplies, APS, Lerner & Rowe Injury Attorneys, Arizona Lottery, Copperpoint Insurance Companies, Desert Ridge Marketplace, Ford Motor Company, Jacksons Car Wash, Donley Services, Credit Union West, Grand Canyon University, Biltmore Bank of Arizona, Cox Communications, Arizona Diamondbacks, Arizona Coyotes, Phoenix Suns Charities, Chipotle, Republic Services, Bar-S Foods, and PODS. Thanks to the generosity of these civic-minded businesses, BBBSAZ is able to provide children facing adversity in Arizona with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better.

“We have a strong commitment to our community,” said Ed Munson, vice president and general manager, KTVK 3TV and KPHO CBS 5. “We are proud to pay it forward to organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona who make a big impact in the lives of those who need it the most.”

CBS 5 and 3TV viewers, and car wash volunteers and attendees, were treated to entertainment including live bands, radio broadcasts, appearances by professional sports teams’ mascots and cheerleaders, costumed film and TV characters, unique vehicles, performers, and more.

“It has been awesome to watch this event grow over the last 10 years, and we are thrilled that it now seems to be an annual event that the community looks forward to supporting,” said Capello.
